Transmission Modes
1. Simplex
· USA : this means the transmission of information is one direction only. There is no
provision for back channels carrying control information or acknowledgement, therefore
there is no way to prevent buffer overflow or to signal when transmission should start and
stop.
· EUROPE: simplex often means Half duplex, which isn't the same. Half-duplex have a back
channel , although it is separated in time from the forward channel.
2. Duplex
· Two way data transmission
· Half-Duplex - data transmission is possible in both directions, but not at the same
time
· Full-Duplex - data transmission are possible in both directions simultaneously
· Full/full Duplex - transmission is possible in both directions at the same time but not
between the same two stations (ex. One station is transmitting to a second station and
receiving from the third station)
